Project Overview

ABOUT THE PROJECT

Wak Wak Solar Farm is being developed to provide competitive and reliable dispatchable renewable electricity — initially to supply existing and future heavy industry.

The Wak Wak solar project is proposed to be constructed on a pastoral station approximately 48 kilometres south-east of Darwin and 8 kilometres south-east of Humpty Doo. The project is proposed to consist of approximately 2.7 gigawatt-peak (GWp) of solar generation, and approximately 6 gigawatt-hour (GWh) of battery energy storage system (BESS).

TE H2 is progressing with the environmental and planning approvals for the Wak Wak Solar Farm and will be referring the project to the Northern Territory Environmental Authority (NT EPA) and the Department of Climate Change, Energy, Environment and Water.

Client Engagement Journey

HOW THE WORK EVOLVED

Client engagement was initially scoped for traditional Photomontages to support planning approvals.

After viewpoint review across the project area, no images were identified as required for standard photomontage treatment.

Proposed a shift to Artistic Impressions — a more effective format for communicating the project's scale and context to community stakeholders.

Client only had a 2D CAD layout of the project site. Sourced terrain and aerial data using DEM data from ELVIS to build accurate real-world context.

Developed a full 3D model of the solar farm, integrating terrain, vegetation, and infrastructure from the CAD data.

Worked closely with the client to establish and refine key viewpoints that best communicated the project's footprint and landscape context.

Imagery was designed to help explain the project to the public and stakeholders — bridging the gap between technical data and community understanding.

Generated the final Artistic Impressions, which were adopted by the client for their public-facing project communications.
